Certain viruses can result in formation of a tumor like lesion on the skin.  Among these viruses, HPV is the most common one.  The lesions of HPV, or warts at times mimic skin tumors,

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection of the skin or at timed of the mucous membranes.

Molluscum contagiosum is often a disease of children, however it can also be seen in adults as a sexually transmitted condition. This common viral disease has a higher incidence in children, sexually active adults, and those who have problems with thier immune system, such as patients with HIV disease. This condition often affects trunk of the body, arms, and legs. It can spread by way of direct contact or shared clothing or towels.

The virus commonly spreads through skin-to-skin contact. This includes sexual contact or touching or scratching the bumps and then touching the skin. Handling objects that have the virus on them such as a towel, can also result in infection. The virus can spread from one part of the body to another or to other people. The virus can be spread among children at day care or at school. Molluscum contagiosum is contagious until the bumps are totally gone.

Typical lesion of molluscum has a dimple in the middle of it, as depicted below.
