cutaneous lymphoma Lymphomas are malignant diseases of lymphatic system. These illnesses can manifest themselves in a number of ways. One of these manifestations of lymphoma is in skin. Skin can be the primary site of lymphoma. There are several rare lymphoma disorders that initially start in skin, and over time, and if they fail to respond to treatment, they can become systemic, and involve deep lymph nodes and other tissues of the body. The two most common categorized of skin lymphomas are:
T-Cell Cutaneous Lymphomas such as
Mycosis Fungoides. B-Cell Cutaneous Lymphomas Some subtypes of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma can exclusively present in the skin. These primary cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (CBCLs) are much less common than primary cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs) and represent approximately 20% to 25% of all primary cutaneous lymphomas.
Diagnosis and staging of cutaneous
B-cell lymphomas Proper clinical staging evaluation begins with a complete interview of the patient as well as a thorough examination and search for B symptoms, organ-specific signs) and a thorough physical examination. Laboratory studies include a complete blood cell count with differential and a comprehensive blood chemistry measurement, There are several subtypes to skin lymphomas and each subtype requires its own treatment.
