Facial Moles: Facial moles refer to moles that appear on the face. They can be flat or raised (flush with the skin or elevated above the skin, respectively). If you close your eyes and just touch these moles, you will feel a bump over the raised facial moles and wont feel anything when you touch the flat ones. Great majority of these moles are benign and have been present since childhood or have developed later in life.
Benign raised moles cause absolutely no harm and, as a rule, do not develop as cancerous moles (melanomas). Benign raised moles pose only cosmetic issues. For some, they are unwanted and can be easily removed, while for others they enhance the appearance (hence the name “beauty spot”).
Treatments for facial moles: There are different ways to treat moles. Using cryotherapy some facial moles, especially bulky ones, can be removed. Advantage of cryotherapy over surgery is that the skin will remain intact at all times, eliminating the risk of infections or scar formation. Flat and smaller facial moles are removed by dermabrasion. This is a very gentle and precise mechanical method of removal, where the mole tissue is scrapped off the skin with a very fine device. To obtain desirable results, most moles need more than two treatments spanning several weeks. Each cryotherapy treatment results in removal of a portion of the mole. Some moles are thick and, as a results, they will need several treatments to achieve desirable results. When there are several moles on the face, it is best to only treat a few of them in each treatment session, and allow them to heal.Once the mole is frozen with cryotherapy, new skin cells will populate the treated area. Over time, the color and look of new skin will blend in with the surrounding skin. This normalization process can take up to several months and varies among individuals. Below are images of some of the patients I have treated and the results I have archived with simple, noninvasive cryotherapy.Example of cryo Treatments results for Facial Moles:
This eyebrow mole was treated twice with cryotherapy in span of three months. Below are the before/after images as well as the before/after video.
This raised facial mole was treated twice with cryotherapy. Certain facial moles are superficial and they can be removed with one or two treatments, other moles are like icebergs; we can only see portion of them at the beginning of treatment. Successful treatment of a mole requires complete removal of the root of the mole without leaving a scar. Achieving this is an art, more than a simple application of medical treatment. How far can we go with removal of a facial mole? We go the extent that delivers satisfaction to each person.
Advantages of cryo Treatments to other treatments for Facial and other Moles:
Standard Surgery for removal of a benign mole always results in a visible scar. Appearance of a surgical scar, however small, is unpleasant. Cryotherapy on the other hand does not leave a scar. The integrity of skin is maintained at all times and skin heals rather nicely.
Simple shaving off of raised moles is commonly performed by dermatologists. This procedure cuts the mole at a flat level to the skin, thereby leaving the root of the more in place. Over time, majority of such moles reoccur.
Cryotherapy on the other hand penetrates deeper in the tissue. With each application of cryotherapy, one is able to eradicate the root of the mole, without leaving a scar and achieve excellent results.
Laser treatments are used for treatment of dark and pigmented moles. Laser heat is absorbed by the tissue that contains the dark pigment of the skin and not the rest of the mole tissue. Laser does not work well for iso-color moles, which are the moles that are the same color as the skin is.
Another method of removing moles is using an electric scalpel. Although these devices are excellent in cutting tissue, but they can never get to the root of the moles. At best, these devices cut the mole at its base, leaving the root of the mole behind, leading to re growth of the mole.
The above two cases exemplify the kind of results that can be achieved with cryotherapy, results that are simply not achievable otherwise.
course of treatment for a actual facial mole: I am commonly asked about the course of treatment for a mole and what kind of results we may see after each treatment., etc. Please click here to see an example of how an actual raised facial mole in one of my patients responded to cryotherapy over time, and how it gradually faded away.
