DARK SPOTS: Dark spots, also known as aging or sun spots, are due to excessive growth and pigmentation of the outer layer of skin (the epidermis). These spots are usually brown but can vary in color from light tan to black. There are also a wide range of sizes.
Most dark spots are benign and cause no harm. Some dark spots can develop into skin cancer over time. Benign dark spots pose only a cosmetic issue. Like many other skin conditions, dark spots are more frequent in sun exposed areas of the skin and increase in size and number over time. Individuals with fair complexions are more prone to develop dark spots.
Treatments OF DARK SPOTS: If you have a dark spot on your skin, please come in for a initial consultation. I will check your skin spot and let you know if it needs any extra attention. Most dark spots are benign. I use a non-surgical method called cryotherapy to eradicate these spots. With treatment, most sun and aging spots either disappear or become smaller or lighter in color. To obtain desirable results, dark spots may need several treatments spanning several weeks. With Treatments your skin will remain intact at all times eliminating the risk of infection. Extensive dark spots may require other forms of treatment. Some dark spots need to be biopsied to assure that they are not malignant. Below are images of one our patients. We started the treatment with freezing of one spot first. The two pictures below, depict what the dark spot we treated looked like before and after treatment.
These dark spots are examples of flat and raised sun spots which can easily be treated without surgery. Every skin type may have variety of these kinds of spots. An individual may simultaneously have sun spots, skin tags, and moles.
Cryotherapy is a gentle, yet very effective treatment for all benign skin spots such as moles, skin tags, dark spots and warts, etc.. Cryotherapy triggers the natural healing mechanisms of the skin and the treated spot dries out and develops a scab, which falls off in one to two weeks after treatment. During this time, normal skin grows from the periphery and from underneath the treated spot and pushes off the dried scab.
