birthmarks: A birthmark is a skin marking that is present at birth. Most people use the term "Birthmarks" for large discolored spots that have been present on their skin since childhood. Birthmarks can vary in sizes and colors. Some are Café au lait spots, while other birthmarks are simple benign moles of various sizes. One specific benign flat, congenital birthmark is the Mongolian spot. Mongolian spot is a dark spot, at times bluish in color and most often seen in the back.
All these spots are benign, and even if left untreated, they do not cause any problems. On the other hand, some birthmarks are representative of a more complex underlying disease condition. All birth marks noticed on children have to be checked by pediatricians to assure and check whether that child has any other systemic issues.
Treatment of birthmarks varies depending on the type of birthmark and related conditions. Usually, no treatment is needed for the birthmark itself. Some birthmarks fade over time, or regress, while some do not. Some marks, especially pigmented ones, may enlarge over time and become more noticeable.

Treatments for birthmarks: Birthmarks come in all forms and shapes and locations. Some birthmarks fade overtime, as such allowing time to play its role is a reasonable choice for infants. On the other hand, even as time passes, many birthmarks still remain and will not fade. For these marks, one has to design a treatment plan and strategy that is appropriate for the type, shape, and location of the birthmark.
Most dark and mole looking birthmarks can be effectively treated with Cryotherapy. Each Cryotherapy treatment results in removal of a layer of skin from the site of the birth mark. Some spots are thick and as a results, they will need several treatments. Cryotherapy is extremely safe and can be applied to almost every part of the skin..
Cryotherapy triggers the natural healing mechanisms of the skin, whereby the treated spot dries out, becomes a scab, and falls off in 1 to 2 weeks after treatment. During this time, normal skin grows from periphery and underneath of the treated spot and pushes off the treated spot.
Vascular birthmarks, on the other hand, may need to be treated with heat probe. Heat simply coagulates the blood vessels within the birthmark, making them vanish.
